DMSO: The healing penetrant part 2

Interstitial Cystitis
For years conventional medicine has ignored this curious bladder problem, discounting as unfounded the complaints of hundreds of sufferers, almost all of them women. No infection or other abnormality has ever been identified, yet the symptoms, including pain or a burning sensation upon urinating and an almost constant urge to void, are real. DMSO is one of the few substances that will relieve the agony. A majority of the women in one large study benefitted measurably from a DMSO cocktail that included steroids, heparin and bicarbonate injected into the bladder through the urethra. The results were so consistently good that in America the FDA felt compelled to allow the solvent’s use for this one condition.

In so doing, it allowed tens of thousands of patients to demonstrate its safety for human use.

Absorption Problems
When DMSO penetrates the skin, which it does quickly, it brings along whatever else is mixed with it, and this allows for some fascinating applications.

  • Digestion problems, we know, impair nutrient absorption in older people, leaving them vulnerable to any number of health problems.
  • In a study of macular degeneration, a group of older people improved their sight simply by rubbing on their skin a DMSO solution that contained nutrients known to reverse the course of this degenerative eye disease.
  • The penetration proclivity, rivalled only by another natural substance, hyaluronic acid, also enhances an antifungal drug’s effectiveness against toenail infections and alpha-interferon’s work against genital herpes.
  • It also dissolves certain hemorrhoids overnight.

Sprained Ankles
One of DMSO’s most widely used applications, especially by a number of professional sports teams, is the treatment of sprained ankles. Rubbing it directly on the injured joint relieves pain and reduces swelling within an hour. You may assume that the ankle is not the only site where DMSO- responsive sprains can take place.

SUPPLEMENT SUGGESTIONS

The quality of DMSO varies widely. I recommend a pharma ceutical-grade brand that is between 50 and 70 per cent pure dimethyl sulfoxide. You also should use it only under the supervision of a health care practitioner who is familiar with it. Because of the terrific absorbency, special care must be exercised. DMSO will draw into the bloodstream virtually anything that’s on your skin. Thoroughly wash and rinse the area on which you will apply it. The same goes for your hands.
