Speedy Relief For Impotence

If you’re impotent, the quickest way to put yourself on the road to recovery is to put the problem in perspective: You’re not alone. Doctors estimate that as many as ten million American men are impotent. The problem appears to be associated with age, with about 1.9 percent of 40-year-olds experiencing it-all the way up to 25 percent of men 65 years old. But once impotence develops, it need not be a lifelong problem. And curing it need not take a lot of time.

For some men who have been unable to achieve or maintain an erection, the solution has been surgically implanted prosthesis, a device that achieves an erection through mechanical means. But with new and faster methods of treating impotence, mechanical erections are rapidly becoming the treatment of last resort-reserve for only the most severe cases of physiological impotence.

With the availability of medical treatments for impotence increasing all the time, penile prosthesis is rarely indicated these days. There are several other effective treatments that are not only far less invasive but quicker as well.

First test the system. Normally, a man will have several erections over the course of a night’s sleep-unless there is a physical impairment. A laboratory can set you up with what is called a Nocturnal Penile Tumescence (NPT) test, which will measure the frequency, rigidity, and duration of your nighttime erections.

NPT tests-even the ones given in labs-are not foolproof. There have been cases of severely depressed men who had abnormal NPT responses but who were helped by psychological therapy. Nevertheless, the information is valuable. But the NPT can involve spending two or three nights sleeping at the laboratory, alone in bed, with tube-like electrodes on your penis.

Check out any drugs you may be taking. If the cause of your impotence is a mystery, you might be able to save yourself a lot of the time and expense of a medical investigation by dong some detective work of your own. The first place to check for clues is your medicine cabinet. Many commonly prescribed drugs can cause impotence. Among the classes of such drugs are: blood pressure medications and diuretics, anti-anxiety drugs, antidepressants, tranquilizers, antispasmodics for the bladder and bowel, drugs used to treat irregular heartbeat, drugs used to treat Parkinson’s disease, antihistamines, muscle relaxants, anti-ulcer drugs, cholesterol-lowering drugs, female hormones, anti-arthritis medications, and others.

If you suspect that one of your medications is the cause of your impotence, do not make any changes on your own. Check with your doctor first. Dosages can be adjusted or medications switched. Take heart: The negative effects of drugs on potency are almost always reversible.

Consider an IV treatment. The quickest fix for erection problems and impotence (as well as premature ejaculation and performance anxiety) is a 3- to 4-second injection of a drug into the penis. The drug produces a near-instant erection–one that can last anywhere from 10 minutes to 2 hours, regardless of how many times ejaculation takes place. The injection erection is good for psychological impotence as well as physical impotence. The drug overrides the effects of anxiety or lack of confidence because it directly stimulates the vasodilator mechanism that controls blood flow into the penis and, thereby, causes erections. The dosage of the drug determines the duration of the erection. Physicians usually tailor the dose to the individual.

Male enhancements. Supplements have flooded the market today and you cannot just be sure which products are genuine and which are not. While you might have heard that male enhancement supplements are effective, there is no guarantee it will work for you. You should tell your doctor what you think about it before you actually take in one to avoid health complications.

Male enhancement may be able to help you with your erection problem but you may also be putting yourself at a greater health risk. That’s one thing you couldn’t afford to neglect. There are a number of people who died because of it so you don’t have to take any chances.
